AlzheimerAdventures Chapter 498~ Masking the Truth

Living with a person who has Alzheimer’s disease is one thing. Living with a person who has Alzheimer’s disease during a pandemic is something different altogether! Masks. So important for our health and safety, and for not spreading the disease. Mom can’t seem to get a mask on the right way to save her life. I have demonstrated on my face for her. I have showed her how to put it on hers. I’ve done it in front of a mirror. She can’t get it. “Mom, it goes across your mouth.” Mom puts it on her eyes like a blindfold. “Mom, is that your mouth?” I laughed out loud when I saw the comic above – its mom all over! I have tried every kind of mask known to man. The ones that are like scarves, the ones attached to headbands. You name it, I’ve tried it. She simply cannot get them on by herself. Unless she’s going to get a COVID shot and hoping to see a cute physician, then she breaks out the sequined mask and gets it on without help!

Turns out we did get a cute doctor, but I couldn’t take a photo of said cute doctor giving the vaccine, as her sleeve was too tight to roll up, and she had to take her top off. Of course when she did, 27 wadded up Kleenexes, 12 toothpicks, 2 extra masks, and other paraphernalia that she hides in her clothing fell to the floor. Not to worry though, she scooped everything right up and tucked them into her waist band, along with the candy and extra toothpicks she had hidden in there.
